Baldwin Park Animal Care Center Gets Spruced Up by CHIC Charity Donations
Our 2nd Charitable Project
After months of research, in August 2018 we found a deserving recipient of our charitable contribution of new blinds, made possible by our kind customers. Baldwin Park Animal Care Center happily received new free custom-made window blind upgrades for their shelter on August 28 and even their guest animals seemed uplifted by the upgrade to their temporary home.
Why We Chose Baldwin Park Animal Care Center
We wanted to help out an organization that provided an important service to a large sector of our local communities. The friendly and knowledgeable staff at Baldwin Park Animal Care Center serves El Monte, Hacienda Heights, Pomona, and Rosemead Districts.
This location was an ideal benefactor for a myriad of reasons. They offer a wide range of low-cost pet adoptions for strays and other homeless animals. The facility also spays and neuters them and ensures they’re healthy before they are adopted by vetted people they’re sure will provide them with safe and loving homes.
What Our Inspection Revealed
Many of the window blinds were broken, cracked, or were extremely difficult to operate. A few window blinds had binder clips serving as brackets, an unsafe and unattractive substitution. In many cases, zip ties were used to keep the window blinds from falling below the window bottoms.
Sgt. Frank Rojas and Cpl. Mayra Cornejo privately disclosed that they and several other staff members had recently purchased cheap, bulk-sale window blinds to remedy the situation but they quickly and easily broke.
Perfect Timing
Just weeks ago, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved funding for the final phase of renovations to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center, to be completed within a year. According to a statement from Supervisor Hilda Solis, the last phases of the restoration include 96 new replacement kennels, additions of fences and gates, and new floors – but no new window blinds.
We stepped up and donated 17 sets of Chicology’s custom made faux blinds (a $688 value), including installation, to add comfort and beauty to the upgraded facility.
Mission Accomplished
We couldn’t have been more pleased with the positive reactions to our new blinds, especially the comments on their clean style and smooth operation. The staff was blown away by what a positive impact the new blinds had on the atmosphere of the Baldwin Park Animal Care Facility. Cpl. Cornejo said their facility was “a home away from home,” and the new blinds made the place look clean, inviting and comfortable.
The newly installed window blinds seemed to boost morale throughout the facility. Everyone was eager to thank us for the donation and as we left, the smiling dogs and purring cats seemed equally appreciative.
